Algonquin Bible

The first Bible to be printed in America was the Algonquin Bible in 1663. It was translated by Pastor John Eliot who concentrated on learning the Algonquian language and developing a written language for the people. The printing of one thousand copies of the Algonquin Bible took three years, printing one page a week.
